One new camp in 2011, another in 2012, growing in 2013!

Ahh. Get ready to expand.

On July 18, 2011, a new FUNNERY started up in Craftsbury. We call it "Funnery Too" and it's especially for younger campers, 11 to 13 years old, and taught by the same awesome teachers, featuring the same original and time-tested techniques, For years our camp population has stayed at about 35. That's really the most people you can squeeze into one Shakespeare performance. So, as our reputation grew, and more and more people just couldn't wait to begin, we decided to start a new program just for younger actors. This new camp is still just one week long for 2013--contact info is the same as for the older camp--and we will end with a group visit to the final performance of the Chelsea Funnery! You can print a 2013 registration form right from this website, fill it out with your info, and send it to us!

An awesome new venture in 2012--expanding to four weeks in 2013!

Thanks to the Vermont Community Foundation, the Funnery received a grant in 2012 to grow in ways we maybe never thought of before! So, even as plans were rolling along for "Get Thee to the Funnery" Fifteen, and the 11th (!) Chelsea Funnery, and Funnery Too—we brainstormed new ideas for reaching new people with our Funnery style.
•We started to write a how-to book for teaching Shakespeare to young people.
•We're planning a "teach teachers to teach" class for professional-development credit.
•We started a new camp, exclusively for young residents at the Highgate Housing Community in Barre, Vermont.
•Down the road: a special camp, for kids who stutter, with--you won't believe this--a money-back guarantee!
Performing Shakespeare at the Sign of the Four will make you more fluent than you've ever been,
or your tuition will be cheerfully handed back to you!

The kids at Highgate Housing had the time of their lives! Shakespeare would've loved what they did. The governor issued a proclamation!

In the end, 13 young actors signed up for the Highgate Funnery experience. It was difficult, and they all rose to the challenges. They learned those lines, mastered those characters, and brought tears and laughter to their families. In 2013, we're going to work with them for four weeks. We believe that in this age of tightened budgets, fiscal cliffs, sequesters, and fraying social safety nets, a theatre program like ours--well, there IS no other program quite like ours--can truly transform a life at a most important time. [Oh, and in October 2012, the Highgate Funnery troupe rode the Amtrak to Brattleboro to see our "Romeo and Juliet" on the main stage at New England Youth Theatre.]

You've read to the bottom of the page! Good job!
Here's a quote for you:
"The DUKE has dined!"
Who said it? In what play?
